‘The Bachelorette’ alum Josh Seiter dead at 36
Josh Seiter, who competed on “The Bachelorette” in 2015, has died just days after discussing his battle with depression and anxiety. He was 36.
The family of the former reality personality took to his Instagram Monday to confirm the news.
“It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share the tragic news of Joshua’s unexpected passing,” read the post, whose comments were turned off.
“As all who knew him can attest, Joshua was an incredibly bright light in an increasingly dim world. His fearless voice and indomitable spirit helped thousands of people in their darkest moments feel just a little less alone. Although our heartache at Joshua’s passing pains us beyond measure, we find comfort in knowing that he is finally at peace.”
Seiter’s loved ones said his Instagram page will remain active “for the time being” so that “his spirit can continue to live on in the pictures and words” posted there.
His family requested “privacy as we grieve.” They provided the 988 SMS Lifeline as a free and confidential resource for “anybody who is experiencing a mental health crisis and needs help.”
Seiter, who tried to woo Kaitlyn Bristowe on season 11 of the ABC reality staple, came out as bisexual earlier this year, previously identifying as pansexual. He thanked multiple LGBTQ outlets for including him in round-ups of celebrities who came out in 2023.
His final Instagram post last week was a beaming selfie, captioned: “Surviving depression and anxiety one day at a time with a smile.”
Prior to his passing, Seiter regularly posted about mental health. In late June, he celebrated nearly four years of sobriety. In July 2021, Seiter identified himself as “a suicide attempt survivor.
“I battle OCD, Bipolar Depression, and GAD [generalized anxiety disorder], but I refuse to give up,” he wrote at the time in the post now pinned to his profile. “What did you survive?”
