Teen shot family for being ‘cannibals’ planning to eat him

An 18-year-old arrested on suspicion of murdering his family told police they were cannibals and were going to eat him, police in Nash, Texas said.

After receiving a call for an “unknown issue” just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday, police arrived to carnage and arrested Cesar Olalde on charges of capital murder of multiple persons.

An affidavit filed later said a co-worker of the youth’s sister, Lisbet Olalde, had gone to check on her after she didn’t show up at work. The colleague and a family member had forced their way in to find themselves staring down the barrel of a gun held by Olalde.

“Witnesses on the scene made officers aware of an individual armed and barricaded inside the residence,” Nash police said in a statement. “Law enforcement also received information that multiple lives had already been taken inside the home.”

The youth called police later, declaring that “he had pulled the trigger, and shot his family,” according to a probable cause affidavit by Nash police officer Craig Buster that was acquired by The Associated Press.

The co-worker told police that Olalde said “he had killed his family because they were cannibals, and they were going to eat him,” police said in the affidavit.

Olalde had been threatening to kill himself, but a Bowie County Sheriff’s Department negotiator got him to surrender, police said. “Officers then entered the residence and located four deceased individuals.”

He had gunned down his parents, Reuben Olalde and Aida Garcia, older sister Lisbet Olalde and his younger brother Oliver Olalde. They appeared to have been “shot at various places in the residence” and then dragged to the bathroom, the affidavit stated. The document also noted that “multiple spent cartridge casings” littered the floor, with “blood spatter on multiple surfaces.”

The alleged gunman was being held in the Bi-State Jail in Texarkana, Texas, on $10 million bond. The 3,800-population town of Nash is on the western edge of Texarkana, near the Arkansas state line.

The Bowie County Sheriff’s Department responded, as did several other agencies, including the Texas Rangers, Department of Public Safety, Wake Village Police Department, Texarkana Independent School District Police Department, Texarkana, Texas Police Department, and the Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department, the Nash statement said.
