Fatal Bronx hit-and-run driver caught on camera plowing into homeless woman: prosecutors
The Bronx driver police say fatally struck a homeless woman last summer was caught on camera getting into his car, ramming into his victim and then speeding off without stopping, prosecutors said Friday.
Motorist Dean Moflehi, 35, had just gotten into his 2021 Lexus LX 570 on July 1 when he rammed into Jessica Brown as she crossed near East Tremont Ave. and Boston Road in West Farms.
Detectives investigating the fatal hit-and-run found surveillance footage that showed Moflehi getting into his car one minute before striking Brown, 26.
First responders called to the scene found Brown lying in the street suffering from severe injuries across her body.
She was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, but she could not be saved.
After an exhaustive investigation, cops tracked down and arrested Moflehi on Thursday — more than eight months after the crash — and charged Moflehi with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and failing to report the accident.
Moflehi lives in Clason Point, about three miles from where the crash occurred.
A Bronx criminal court judge ordered Moflehi held on $35,000 bail during a brief arraignment proceeding late Thursday. He’s expected back in court on March 23.
