Bronx girl, 6, dies with ‘bruises to wrists and torso’: police
A 6-year-old girl died Friday after she was found unconscious and unresponsive in a squalid Bronx apartment with bruises to her wrists and body early Friday, according to the NYPD.
Cops were called to a 12th-floor apartment on E. 165th St. near Tinton Ave. — part of NYCHA’s Forest Houses — just before 4 a.m. when they found little Jalayah Eason unconscious.
The child had bruising and trauma about her wrists and chest, according to police.
EMS rushed the tot to Lincoln Hospital, but she couldn’t be saved.
Jalayah’s mother called 911 when the child wouldn’t wake up, a police source with knowledge of the case said. When cops arrived, she was the only adult in the apartment.
An 8-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl were also found in the apartment, but did not appear to be harmed, the source said.
The apartment was in complete disarray and filthy, a police official said. The city’s Administration of Children’s Services has been alerted to the discovery, cops said.
It was not immediately disclosed if ACS was already investigating the family.
Cops were questioning Jalayah’s mother Friday. No arrests have been made.
An autopsy has been scheduled to determine how the child died.
